How to get the best results with AI product photography

How to get the best results with AI product photography, and how to use these new tools to make striking images that sell your product.

AI product photography is rapidly emerging as the best new tool in the marketers toolbox. In this article we're going to share what we've learned: How you can use these new tools to sell your products, and what to avoid.

Once you've decided to use AI product photography to enhance your marketing, there are a few key things you can do to ensure you get the best results. Here are our top tips:

1. Start with a good base image (garbage in = garbage out)

Your AI generated product photos are only as good as the base product images you start with. Uploading poor quality base images is the most common mistake we see users making.

The base images of your product should be high resolution and well lit. It's also important that the product is not obscured by clothing, hands, or anything else.

If your base product photos are poor quality, the AI-generated photos will also be poor quality. This is because AI product photography tools avoid modifying the product itself (we do this so logos and labels don't get distorted).

Our tip: If you already have some professional quality product photos these make great base images.

2. Choose your "style" image wisely

The "style" image controls what the overall scene will look like. It's important to choose an image that accurately represents the look and feel you want for your product photos.

Keep in mind that the AI system will copy the colors, lighting, and composition of the style image, so choose something that will work well with your products.

Be careful - the AI system will also dutifully copy compression artifacts (like JPEG noise) in your style image. If all the generated images look like they are posterized (low color bit depth) or noisy, now you know why!

Our tip: If you have photos of existing products in your brand style, then you can use those as style images

3. Learn the limitations

AI generated images can contain small imperfections, for example lines that aren't completely straight.

These imperfections are least visible in natural scenes, because the natural world also contains small imperfections (trees are never totally straight, leaves aren't all the same size or color). Because of this, AI generated imagery is excellent for natural scenes (mountains, lakes, flowers, forests) and natural textures (wooden tables).

Try to avoid scenes that contain people, text, hands or faces - small imperfections will really stand out in these scenes. The best workaround for these limitations is to make the scene as simple as possible and generate more images (even if most of them are distorted, some of them will be good). There are also tools specifically designed for fixing badly generated faces, hands, etc.

Our tip: Natural scenes work the best

4. Generate a lot, and keep trying until you're happy

For every one good AI generated image there may be 10 bad ones that got discarded along the way. This is because most AI generated images have some small problem with them that makes them unusable.

If you can't get the results you want don't be afraid to ask for help!

Our tip: Be prepared to click through a few of them until you find one that looks good.

5. Experiment!

One of the biggest benefits of AI product photography is that you can experiment with style, lighting and composition.

Our tip: Why not make several product photos and see which one your customers like best?
